This high-ceilinged spa in one of Soho's narrow cast-iron buildings looks a little like your grandma's beauty salon during the 1980s: The teal-meets-pink color palette could use an update, though the live plants snaking up the floor-to-ceiling windows are a welcome change from the tacky plastic shrubbery at similarly styled spots. A few hairstyling services (cut, color, straightening) are available, but those chairs tend to be empty: Most customers are in the back rooms getting de-kinked with a straightforward, get-the-job-done Shiatsu rubdown. (Those partial to privacy will appreciate being behind actual doors, not screens.) There's a dedicated reflexology area in the main space, where clients who'd rather not be alone with their thoughts as their soles are pummeled zone out to satellite television or DVDs (each recliner has a swing-arm TV screen). Another great touch: At neighboring salons, questions might be answered with a shrug or a "sorry" by a therapist who speaks little English, but here, a masseuse is quick to whip out his pocket electronic translator so a guest can type in a complicated query about which treatment to book.

Foot Soaks

If your toes smell less-than-fresh after a day trekking through Soho's shopping district, you can add on a pre-reflexology foot soak made from botanically based ingredients like ginger powder or Tibetan seaweed.
