Profile

This venue is closed.

Women who hurry into Indra with short, unruly hair may strut out slowly a few hours later swinging long, luxurious Tyra Banks locks. The vast majority of clients come to this near-invisible garment-district salon to get their dreadlocks twisted, tresses straightened, and extensions applied minus the trek to Harlem, Brooklyn, or the Bronx. Many of the shop’s fourteen stylists, all sporting BET-worthy dos, have had their designs profiled in Essence, Sophisticate's Black Hair, and Hype Hair magazines, the clippings of which serve as décor, along with gauzy white drapes and wood furnishings. Press-n-curls and cornrows remain on the menu for traditionalists, but big-style weaves are truly queen here. Old-schoolers can have their hair put in using tracks, but the more natural-appearing, longer-wearing and pricier strand-by-strand fusion technique and invisible track styles are often requested, too. A barber is also on deck to groom the gentlemen via trims, fades, and seasick-worthy waves.
