Profile

Jerry Hickey, R.Ph., helped pioneer the field of natural pharmaceuticals with the founding of Hickey Chemists in 1988. Now that the store has grown into a eight-location chain and changed its name, his followers continue to stop in to replenish their supplies of InVite pills and supplements while a growing public—shunning conventional medicines—seeks to solve its aches, pains, and other issues with the stores’ “nutraceutical” cures. The pre-renovated shops are unadorned spaces stacked with shelves, but the one on Third Avenue is radiant, with orange walls, flower photos, light wood floors, and a sit-down anTEAoxidant bar that peddles smoothies, sodas, and teas. Cosmetic benefits are the main selling point of the company’s anti-aging and weight loss lines as well as its topical skin care products but the nutritional innovations are best manifested in the stores’ tablets, tinctures, and powders that address specific concerns like bone and joint health, digestive problems, cholesterol control, stress management, and allergies. Milk thistle and grape seed extract show up next to quizzical ingredients like tocopherol and tocotrienol, but the employees can provide information on all of them. Plus, an in-store nutritionist is on hand most days for free consultations.

Extra

Buy-two-get-one-free is a daily special on all InVite products, and each month a selection of items are sold two-for-one.
