Profile
You can expect to get right down to business at this nook-like spa, a fixture in its equally down-to-earth neighborhood since the mid-eighties. Owner Sara Savage and her mother, Diana, offer honest, Aunt Sally-type advice, telling it like it is as they perform their list of skin treatments. Have a ruddy complexion? Cut out the chocolate and dairy, they’ll say, making the vibe more all-in-the-family than in-the-know. No ornate candelabras or New Age Enya soundtracks to distract from the service here—just spare rooms that leave the focus entirely on hair-banishing treatments and purifying facials that aim to even skin tone. One of the team's signature and gasp-worthy offerings is the geisha-rooted Epidermal Leveling Treatment, in which Savage deftly runs a scalpel over the face to remove dead layers of skin and a gossamer film of facial hair, resulting in a velvety complexion. But it's the owner’s waxing prowess (especially her Brazilian) that has earned a loyal following. Clients testify to its near painlessness, which is due to both Savage's sensitive-skin wax and her quick-like-a-band-aid removal method. Any missed hairs get a pluck by the tweezers.
