When comfort food and late nights at the university club du jour won’t do the trick, NYU coeds storm this neighborhood nail oasis to recharge their tired, unpolished selves. The salon’s two locations, both crammed into the hub of the campus, aren’t necessarily fancy, but the pistachio-colored paint job, bamboo wall hangings, and sleek, flat-screen TVs somehow create a therapeutic vibe. A hearty lineup of six massaging pedicure chairs and eight manicure stations help alleviate the wait time for the droves of defeated-looking students who tumble through the door. After getting buffed, kneaded, and freshly coated by one of the particularly pleasant operators (razoring on calloused feet is optional), clients can enjoy strong, complimentary shoulder and back massages during dry time, or relax at the makeshift drying bar and take in the boho-looking passersby on Broadway. Gel wraps, silk tips, and full waxing services are also on the menu, but these seem far less popular than short, sweet nails jobs finished with a shellacking of OPI or Essie color. Thanks to frequent-visitor punch cards, the prices here won’t put too much of a nick in a student’s budget either.
