With a roster of insanely celebrated stylists, John Frieda's salons offer cuts and color that are about as skilled as they come. Stylist Serge Normant, who took the helm at the Meatpacking-District salon in 2007, is Julia Roberts' go-to guy; he's also available for those of us who aren't tabloid fodder for the week. Though related, the two locations operate as separate entities: 76th Street is smaller, airy, bright, oozing with understated elegance, and surprisingly hushed. You can get a manicure, sip tea, and let your highlights set here simultaneously. "We get people from downtown quite frequently," says Normant, referring to both south of 14th Street and south of the Mason-Dixon: Many of his clients fly in from Texas and Georgia for the day to keep their standing appointments. — Melissa Foss
Simone Mangano has a natural sense, eye and talent for color that is rare.
She created rich booming blond hair for me. After 6years together people constantly go crazy about my hair, although now its naturally, vibrantly stunning red. Red: the hardest and almost impossible color to work with and get right. If you are red, covering greys, changing or color your hair, give Simone the responsibility and forever live in hair color heaven.
She gracefully did many small and two MAJOR color corrections. from horrible cheating mistakes turned nightmare. 1st: i called hysterically crying, after a colorist turned me from bardot blond to punk rock black purple, so bad the guy dried my hair up side down in my lap. I left with phenominal auburn hair. 2cnd: again in tears I resembled a pink and red cheetah, no exaggeration. She calmly, smiled and gently said, we can fix this! I walked out a natural, stunning strawberry blond beauty. The breathtaking color corrections were night and day.
I completely trust her and can plop down and say 'do what you think is best' and it is absolutely beyond perfect.
Simone mastered the art of color and applying it to hair!!!!!
At first I thought I was going to have a pretentious salon but I had an appointment with Ty and he was as professional as if I were the celebrity he just walked to the door. (not to be a name dropper)
