Marissa Doehla’s quaint, three-station salon feels more like a friend’s apartment than a hair salon, with mix-and-match art decking the exposed brick, leopard-print accents strewn about, and her French bulldog, Elvis, perennially stationed in the front window. Doehla opened the spot in 2005 and brought on co-stylist Lizzie Steelheart. The pair honed their skills at the Aveda institute, though Doehla received early training while spending time at her mother’s salon in upstate New York. Doehla and Steelheart offer adept cuts and color to a clientele of neighborhood musicians, artists, and bartenders, specializing in modern, natural looks that aren’t overstyled or saturated with products. And while the vibe is laid-back, the duo keeps an efficient schedule, since they’re also the ones sweeping the floor between appointments.
