Upper West Side resident and stylist-colorist Laura Braunstein saw a lack of quality salons in her neighborhood, which led the Aveda-trained, Tosler Davis vet to open this spacious eight-chair, Mediterranean-inspired space. B., a New York native who also holds a law degree, designed the salon with clean-feeling pale purple walls, letting the bold, wrought-iron chandelier surrounded by colorful silk fabric draping the ceiling be the centerpiece. The staff of ten, most of whom Braunstein met through doing editorial work, are all trained to do both cut and color, minimizing the bounce around between staff members when you're getting the works. This less rigid approach is the same for products, too; the salon picks and chooses between Moroccan Oil, Lenor Grey, and others, depending on the client's hair. And while this flexible attidude makes this salon feel inclusive to all, blondes should take note: Sunny highlights are one of the specialties, apparent by the twenty- and thirtysomething clientele who walk out looking like San Diego surfer girls.
