Leah Tejpal won’t name her famous clients, only saying they regularly appear on television, but they most likely share the same flawless complexion as this Mumbai-raised esthetician, who practiced Ayurvedic skincare and hair threading on India’s elite at the Taj Mahal and Oberoi hotels. After moving to New York in the early nineties, Tejpal brought her threading technique to top city salons like the Sports Club LA, and developed a fan club that moved with her from salon to salon, until she opened this one-woman, one-room show in an Upper East Side professional building. A mother herself, Leah has little time to spare, so she specializes in quick, efficient facials for women on the go or with tykes in tow. She insists on her appointments running on time so no one’s kept waiting, especially since many of her clients make long commutes from Scarsdale, New Jersey, and even London to see her. Products are from her own private line, which she mixes and matches with Jannsen, depending on the client’s needs, but it’s her signature technique of combining microdermabrasion and deep cleaning with her soothing homemade shea butter that’s turned even the acne-prone into devout followers.
