When former fashion executive and single mom Brigitte Prat moved to Brooklyn in the late nineties, she was frustrated by the lack of reputable, kid-friendly places to get her daughter Lulu’s hair cut—or, for that matter, a toy store that could rival those across the bridge. Determined to fill the void in Park Slope, in 2001 she opened this salon catering to infants through teens, nestled within a boutique of pint-size playthings. Once kids have selected a favorite movie to watch, the stylist will chat with her young client to make the haircutting process seem like an adventure, not a chore. Parents can request a range of mod kid styles for $22, including a faux-hawk, elevated French bob, modern bowl, or the Kennedy-inspired “John-John,” while overgrown bangs can be snipped for $8.  After enduring the cutting process, patient tots receive a balloon, lollipop, and temporary tattoo. With a parent’s permission, kids can also select a toy from the store; many options ring in at $20 or less. — Amanda Pressner
