Today-show makeover guru Mario Diab polished his haircutting chops on Parisian runways, spent a spell in Dubai as head stylist at the Jumeirah Beach Hotel, and has snipped the tresses of A-listers like First Lady Laura Bush and Bobbi Brown. In 2007, he opened his first salon, a studio space in the Soho Integrated Health Building. Each of the seven stylists specializes in either curly or straight locks and practices dry cutting techniques, precise bailage coloring for curls, and foils for highlighting straight hair. Diab strives to soothe overtreated and overstyled hair, using gentle dying methods and swearing off damaging treatments like chemical straightening and perms. The salon uses Profound Beauty’s full line of moisturizing, frizz-reducing, and shaping products, as well as styling aids from all-natural Parisian brand Lenor Greyl. High-profile clients are drawn by added perks, like a sectioned off “color block room” that can be used for hair consultations or business meetings—as well as the salon’s convenient proximity to Balthazar.
