For those who feel that day spas are a bit too frivolous and plastic surgery a little too extreme, Medical Aesthetics hits just the right middle ground. Owned and operated by Dr. Leslie Gerstman, a board-certified physician who specializes in esthetic medicine, this peaceful Soho medi-spa offers a complete menu of non-surgical cosmetic procedures. The spa, made up of just two treatment rooms, has a relaxed, Zen-like feel, with high ceilings, polished hardwood floors, and Asian-inspired accents like kimonos hanging on the walls. While the space feels very “day spa,” the menu of services doesn’t: In place of massages and body wraps you’ll find medical facials, skin rejuvenation programs, and laser hair-removal treatments. Medical facial options include microdermabrasion and nine different peels, ranging from the Clarifying Peel (a blend of twenty percent salicylic acid and natural antibacterial and anti-inflammatory agents) to the Sensi Peel, targeted toward extremely sensitive skin. FotoFacials, Acne Therapy, and Myolift programs are also available, as are Botox and other filler treatments. One of the spa’s most popular programs is the VelaSmooth treatment, which uses radio frequency and light energies to reduce the appearance of cellulite. Rounding out the services are makeovers using Jane Iredale’s line of makeup (also available for sale) and holistic nutrition consultation.
