Mimosa Gordon offers a quaint, pleasant setting for Pilates at her in-home studio, located on the second floor of her four-story Chelsea townhouse. Gordon, who trained with renowned Pilates teacher Romana Kryzanowska and taught at re:AB Pilates, has an upbeat, cheerful disposition, which makes the sometimes strenuous sets of core-centric exercises taken directly from Pilates founder Joseph Pilates a little more bearable, as does the sunlight streaming in from the deck right off the small, white-walled studio. And although the Texas native is committed to giving her clients—a handful of which are Vogue editors—a practice that is tailored to their individual bodies and abilities, all students start on the reformer and Cadillac machines at their first session. The 50-minute classes are either private or semi-private (with two students), and must be booked in advance.Pros
In this one-on-one or two-to-one setting, you can’t beat the personal attention that you’re getting here. Plus, Gordon’s humor usually makes for some additional abdominal work from giggling through exercises.
It’s not affordable for everyone (privates are $96, while duets are $60 per person).
