After several years at the now defunct uptown spa Georgette Klinger, Hungary native Mirelle Netelle opened her own place in the Hamptons in 1990. When skyrocketing rents drove her back to the city twenty years later, she found Enve, a loft in Chinatown where hair and beauty professionals rent chairs or small spaces to administer their services. Netelle offers tea and raw almonds before leading clients into her tiny, spartan room. A towel-wrapped electric warming pad relaxes the body, making lying on the floor less awkward. The specialty here is an ultrasonic facial that gently sloughs off dry skin without scratching and discoloring the surface as microdermabrasion can. The little buzzing device is also used to change skin’s pH levels to allow moisturizers to penetrate further. You’ll leave with super-soft skin and a list of products from labels like LaRoche-Posay or Vichy that are appropriate for your skin type. Hard waxing is also available, as are donation-based yoga sessions where she practices with novices for whatever they'd like to contribute.
