The only indicators of New Romantic Nail’s existence are its large, second-floor window and the sidewalk service menu outside the tiny door that leads to the salon. The space is simply decorated with a few weathered black-leather couches, two massage chairs, and a few posters, but the owners don’t fret about their lack of bells and whistles; if asked, they’ll direct those looking for luxe service to the snooty big-name spa up the street. As you might expect, most customers come not for atmosphere, but for bargain services performed in a flash. The always-smiling, mostly English-speaking technicians offer a mani-pedi combo with soothing hand and leg massage in under 30 minutes (even during the busy lunch hours) for under twenty bucks. The varnish can last five days or more, but the salon will gladly lacquer with a client’s own polish, to make touch-ups easier (and to supplant the rather thin palette of color choices). Affordable and well-executed leg, face, and bikini waxing with Gigi products is available in the salon’s three back rooms.
