Not the most aesthetically pleasing among the myriad Asian-American family-owned beauty businesses in the city, Ocean Spa still holds its own with its budget prices and accommodating hours. Beige tiles, bright track lighting, Far Eastern Muzak, and bare, windowless walls won’t necessarily salve the spirit, but clients’ nails will be just as pretty and their wallet a little less light when they leave. The small spa has two pedicure stations with heated massage chairs and two manicure tables. In back is a carpeted warren of semi-private massage, facial, and waxing rooms for singles and couples. Swedish, deep-tissue, and hot-stone massage is available, and athletic therapists use the microscopic rooms to their advantage, climbing on top of able-bodied clients to apply their full weight to tense muscles. The hour-long Deep Cleansing facial (using the French skin-care lines Klapp and ESP) is a true bargain at $40, but their most popular service is the Spa Pedicure, which treats tired feet to a flower-and-milk wash, exfoliating scrub, cucumber-cream massage, and cleansing mineral mask.
