As a beauty destination, Pastel furnishes the usual manicures (performed up front in spotless modern digs) and pedicures (carried out on pedi thrones resembling funky easy chairs). Five rear treatment rooms provide a full spa roster covering massages and body scrubs, facials, waxing, tanning, and men’s services. But what makes Pastel a truly feel-good destination is its Pan-Asian staff, who provide a degree of personal service not usually offered with a polish change or French pedicure. Here technicians dish and josh with customers, asking about boyfriends and pets. Leaving with a smile may be a cliché but Pastel clients are assured a grin that lasts almost as long as their probably not-pastel nail color. — Karen Tina Harrison
