Boys short on time and long in locks come to this compact Russian-Israeli–owned shop, where no one waits more than five minutes before settling in for a snip. Getting goatees and nose hairs groomed isn’t particularly exhilarating or pampering, so the owners occasionally add a little adrenaline to the experience by generously taping pay-per-view Ultimate Fighting Championship matches and replaying them on the 42-inch flat-screen TV. Amazingly enough, it wouldn’t be unheard of for contestants Randy “The Natural” Couture or Chuck “The Iceman” Liddell to be sitting right next to you; the less intimidating Mekhi Phifer, Elton John, and Bill Moyer have also come in for slick fades and precision scissor-cuts, complete with an old-fashioned shave using straight razors and hot towels. Midweek, busy execs dominate the leather swivel chairs, temporarily shelving their Times in favor of Details, but on quiet weekends, the area’s First and Second Avenue residents stop in, including little boys looking for their first haircut. For these special occasions, the Mickey Mouse smock is whipped out and the tough-guy wrestling matches are canned in favor of tyke-friendly Blue’s Clues.
