Profile
After a tough bout with lymphoma in 1997, celebrity makeup artist and brow expert Ramy Gafni emerged with a renewed purpose: to develop a line of antioxidant-rich, oil-free cosmetics that would help cancer patients deal with the physical repercussions of their illness and medical treatments. The resulting products for face, eyes, and lips—all of which can be applied with the fingers—have since earned a cult following, as well as shelf space at fashion mega-boutique Jeffrey. Gafni employs his “minimum makeup, maximum impact” philosophy at his Murray Hill brow-shaping studio and spa, which opened in 2004. The loft space/makeup room/boutique features an inviting open area where up to six clients can be served at once, as well as two private treatment rooms. Ramy Spa is best known for brow-shaping services—that includes “guybrows”—and makeup-application lessons given by the owner himself or one of his half-dozen trained staffers. A favorite of Murray Hill office workers on their lunch breaks and moms treating their ‘tween daughters to their first makeover, Gafni assures that his clients leave looking aglow from within, not weighted down by products—or a hefty bill.
