Re:AB owner and founder Brooke Siler has been toning up New York women, both of the civilian and celebrity variety, since the mid-nineties. Her homey, second-floor East Village Pilates studio, which she opened in 1997, has hardwood floors and exposed brick, and is sectioned-off with curtains into three separate classrooms, each outfitted with mats and equipment like reformers, cadillacs, and a Gratz apparatus. And while the sleek physiques roaming the studio can be intimidating to Pilates novices, the studio, offering both group and private sessions, aims to be inclusive to all fitness levels, with an intro class for first-timers, a more advanced “master class,” and a handful of sessions that fall somewhere in between. Siler, a protégé of renowned Pilates instructor Romana Kryzanowska and author of books like The Pilates Body and Your Ultimate Pilates Body Challenge, has certified many of the instructors on staff here, all teaching the traditional Pilates method from Joseph Pilates.Pros
For a smallish studio, re:AB offers a good number of classes throughout the day, making it convenient for most. They also often have some sort of special going on for class packages.
Since the three studios are only separated by a curtain, it’s easy to be distracted by another class going on simultaneously.
