Profile

This venue is closed.

In 2008, longtime spinner Marion Roaman opened this boutique studio in the Upper East Side. Located on the third floor of a narrow building on a residential Upper East Side block, Ride the Zone, which also has outposts in East Hampton and Watermill, is without any extra bells and whistles; the studio focuses instead on intense, take-no-prisoners-style classes. In their one-room studio, find regular stationary bikes, as well as RealRyder leaning bikes, which force the cyclist to control the bike with abdominal and upper-body strength, making for a hard-core total-body workout. Like most other spinning studios around town, classes, which run the gamut from a straightforward hourlong ride to a more intricate 45-minute class that involves upper-body moves, are held to loud, upbeat music (think old-school Backstreet Boys and Lady Gaga), with instructors often screaming along to the songs.

Pros

There is a good selection of classes held throughout the day, making it convenient for busy New Yorkers to get into the studio.

Cons
Dressing-room accommodations are small; shower facilities are located on a separate floor and shared with another business in the building.
