Cries of bonjour and ciao are bandied about at this relaxed salon, a collaborative effort between Parisian entrepreneur Sébastien Ayache and Italian-born Lina Preston (formerly of Suite 303 and Laicale). With exposed-brick walls, white curtains, and espresso-toned furniture (and a long, wooden bar), the space is free of the jumbled mania standard to most neighborhood hair spots. Although the ever-present house music may not be for everyone, it fits with the Euro-chic mood of the staff, a multiculti team of hair pros from Belgium, France, Italy, Russia, and Japan. Since aesthetics vary widely from stylist to stylist, managers guide first-timers toward an ideal match. Customers appreciate the shop's little extras, too: The receptionist dispenses cappuccinos brewed with Esse coffee, and on weekends, house-made mimosas and mini-croissants help pacify those who've had to forgo brunch. — Lexi Dwyer
