Owner Scott J was the first stylist in the city to exclusively use Aveda’s all-natural products. He took the salon experience to the next level when he opened a spa in a studio apartment above his first location, on 114th Street and Broadway. Today, of his three New York-area salons, the Columbus Avenue outpost is the flagship, with five treatment rooms, a lounge area, and a bank of haircare stations. Spa space at the other salons varies—there are three rooms on 86th Street; just one on 114th—but all share a similar look: soothing colors, brick walls, and soft lighting. All locations also use Aveda products alone, and perform the line’s signature treatments. The Elemental Nature facial begins with clients choosing one of three essential oils (your choice determines what products will be used throughout the service); Outer Peace Acne Relief incorporates Aveda’s pimple-fighting products. Haircuts, color, and styling are popular with neighborhood clients; you can also indulge in body wraps and scrubs, massage, waxing, and nail care. (Note: Not all services are offered at every location.) Scott J is all about extra touches, from foot and arm massages during facials to the hand treatments and makeup touch-ups that are complimentary with all services. Products from—who else?—Aveda are available for purchase.Sales
