It doesn’t get much more elegant than the Spa at the Setai Club, a 12,000-square-foot Zen-inspired retreat opened in early 2010. All dark wood, luxe fabrics, and minimalist design, the low-lit, windowless space is so tranquil, so serene, you’ll quickly forget you’re in the tense heart of the Financial District. After changing into a plush Frette robe and slippers, you’ll be offered champagne, a heated neck pillow, and sweet bites from downstairs restaurant SHO Shaun Hergatt in the Tea Lounge while you wait for your treatment, or you could pass the time in the AquaGrotto, with its elevated, Italian marble Jacuzzi, eucalyptus steam room, and Finnish sauna. The service menu runs the gamut from massage to skincare to body treatments; signatures include the Moroccan hammam experience, which boasts a thermal soak, red-clay wrap, and rosewater massage, and the expert facials with June Jacobs products. Service is uber-attentive—a fresh bathmat magically appears when you step out of the shower; an attendant arrives the moment you’ve finished dressing—but the effect is never stifling.
