In 2010, Karuna Devi, a stylist and native New Yorker who has worked with photographers like Mario Sorrenti and publications like Japanese Vogue, teamed up with her friend Joel St. Yves and revamped this former alt-rock salon to have a chic-meets-street feel. Chandeliers were hung, a wall was painted with a neon New York subwayscape, and the exposed bricks were adorned with Robert Crumb-esque graphics (etched with a Sharpie). The salon is staffed by a team of Bumble and bumble. and Arrojo-trained stylists of varying skill levels, each with a portfolio of celebrity clients (from Jimmy Page to Chloë Sevigny). They offer creative, edgy cuts and color, as well as the salon's specialty frizz-taming treatments: Same-day Brazilian keratin wash-out and Brazilian blowouts. In a nod to their East Village digs, students get 20 percent off all services.
