Organic soap company skinnyskinny, which has been around since 2006 and carried in stores and salons around town like Henri Bendel and Robin Evans Skincare, opened its first flagship store in the fall of 2009 in Williamsburg. The rustic space with wooden walls is warm and inviting, with big windows facing Roebling Street, and an earthy yet not overpowering aroma wafting throughout. Soaps that range in scent from the citrus-y lemon and blood orange to the subtle lavender, and wrapped in skinnyskinny’s own recycled, sustainable packaging, line the shelves and the centerpiece table alongside organic potpourri, candles, body oils, lip balms, and even shampoo for your pooch. Most of the this deep space, however, is utilized behind the counter, where owner Clara Williams a former professional sculptor - makes every product herself without the use of any synthetics, sulfates, or artificial preservatives. Customizable gifts are creatively assembled here with soaps grouped together in boxes that look akin to hardbound book covers, which are made from wild grass rather than trees.
