Located on the corner of a Park Slope’s busiest intersection, Studio 97 Salon and Day Spa offers a full gamut of facial, skin, massage, hair, wax, and nail services, albeit in a setting that’s more frenzied than soothing. Six closely packed nail and haircutting stations are serviced by a staff of eleven, whose mostly Russian banter sometimes gets loud over the din of blow-dryers, ringing cell phones, and car horns from outside. Most popular here are the vitamin C and collagen facials, which are administered in one of four private-treatment areas thoughtfully set back from the main room; these are performed by hand, without the use of scrapers or other extracting devices, and feature Dr. Murad and Repêchage products. In the winter, ear candling (a process by which a glass tube is fitted into the ear, then heated to help extract wax buildup and other impurities) is another favorite. Studio 97 is also one of the few places in the neighborhood where, if requested, manicurists will expertly cut cuticles completely from the nail, rather than just push them back.
