Former high-powered Sony exec, Spin editor and Blender magazine creator Regina Joseph responded to a debilitating, stress-induced medical diagnosis by dedicating herself to the teachings of Joseph Pilates. Trained and certified by renowned Pilates pros Bob Liekens and Romana Kryzanowska, Joseph was the lead trainer at Equinox’s Power Pilates until opening her comfortable private studio (and West Village townhouse) in 2004. Now, she gives clients—from professional athletes to spine-injured neophytes—personalized, equipment-based lessons in a safe, supportive (and private) environment. Using The Peak PilateSystem, which combines the Reformer and Cadillac into one mobile, convertible machine, she addresses each client’s medical history and physical goals, even providing nutritional counseling for those seeking a comprehensive lifestyle makeover. Patrons can complement their workout with Super Pilates’ Migun system, a thermal massage bed that’s known to accelerate cellular regeneration—and feel pretty damned good, too.
