Tan in the Shade can provide a quick pigment fix for the pasty-skinned, but occupying the second floor of a poorly aging building, it’s no midtown must. For simulated sunlight, customers can choose to stand up or lie down for UV exposure in varying strengths. (Exposure times are based on a somewhat confusing, point-based pricing system.) In the spray service, automatically timed bursts of light, medium or dark solutions cover the skin with hit-or-miss results that typically don’t look as natural as hand-sprayed tans.
