After 25 years in the hair business, British stylist Tim Dark opened his first eponymous salon in August 2008. Since then, he's maintained a quiet, neighborhood vibe in his minimalist one-station space, offering cuts, color, and blowouts. Dark got his start at the age of 16 with an apprenticeship at Jingles Hair Academy in London, and by 18 he was flying around the world styling hair in London, Los Angeles, and New York. After becoming a teacher and master stylist, he styled Brad Pitt's coif in the eighties movie Johnny Suede, and, more recently, Norah Jones’s wavy locks. He is known for his personalized service—scheduling appointments, washing tresses, and snipping strands himself—and his methodical cuts take at least an hour. He didn't put his teaching skills to rest when he set up shop, either: Dark leads classes on new cutting and coloring techniques when the salon is closed on Sundays and Mondays.
