The name may sound more like a blue film than a salon, but Trini in Private is all about hair care—and the owners are French after all. The salon’s namesake stylist Trini trained and worked in Paris for years before relocating to Florida, where she operates primarily out of the company’s Miami location. (The unusual name comes from the private room she worked out of in Paris.) Located on a busy corner in the Village, her primary Manhattan outpost feels breezy, perhaps thanks to sailboat-inspired décor—mahogany-colored floors, crisp white walls accented with nautical blue, and white leather seats. The styling stations along the walls are even separated by sails. Trini’s big draw is her large selection of Kerastase and Phyto—both for sale and used in conditioning treatments. (L’Oreal’s professional line is also in stock.) Two colorists work the four chairs in the middle of the salon while three stylists cut hair, both wet and dry, at eight lining the walls. Foot rests and cushy neck-holders on sinks make the washing stations extra comfortable, and perms, Japanese straightening, extensions, weaves and highlights are also on the menu.

The salon’s 23rd St. location offers five stylists and more cutting stations (thirteen) than its Sixth Ave. location.
