If you can't get naked in front of other people, don't bother with Tui-Na. If, however, you can deal with lying nude in a darkened basement room with an equally nude stranger (of either gender) on the table next to you, you'll get a true massage bargain here - once the energetic Tui-Na masseuses start working on your muscles, you'll lose any anxiety about where you are, anyway.
Just to echo the previous comments -- I went to Tui-Na for the first time today, and had the same frustrating experience upon paying. Although I had gotten an hour-long massage (listed as $40), the woman insisted I give her $60. There didn't seem any way to leave without giving her another $20. The thing is, I would have gladly paid $60 in the first place! It was quite a good massage -- sensitive but no-nonsense. So the bait-and-switch price tactic seemed pointless. Also, I should mention there was a guy moaning next to me. The whole thing is a bit surreal.
I recieved a massage here on 10/11/05 upon hearing its the cheapest in manhattan (false, kenmare and mulberry is cheaper at 7$ 10 min, but no oil and you leave your shirt on) a shame, nice massage, nasty tactics. upon me requesting 15 min, they pretended not to speak english, then thought i meant 50 min, and demanded i pay for a 50 min massage after the 15 min massage was compleated. The cost was 12$, when i gave them a 20 she took it and shut the regester! I stood there expecting change for a good 5 min while they pretended I wasnt relevant, my polite gestures didnt interupt them watching chinese soap-operas. Unlike the previous reviewer, upon me making a scene, they did give me my change back, saying now in clear english its polite to leave a tip, which i did, just not 8$, that i handed myself to the massuer, much to their disapointment of just taking it out of my pocket. I actually would return however, they were petrified enough it wouldnt happen again. It was also abundantly clear they were slurring me in their ethnic tongue during the massage.
