For unpretentious but hair-conscious Upper West Siders, this homey garden-level salon is the answer to pricier cross-town coiffeurs. Since husband and wife team Kevin and Megan Gordon founded TwoDo in 1994, a mostly local clientele has developed a strong attachment to Megan's gray-banishing color expertise (after silver strands seeped into her own mane at age 12, she became a color junkie by necessity). Customers also return for the mainly Vidal Sassoon-schooled stylists, who offer solid classic cuts. The eight chairs see a steady but not hectic stream of traffic, giving clients space to roam into the trellis-enclosed back patio to munch on tea and cookies while they process. Hand-painted stained glass windows, white brick walls, and copper artwork from a Brooklyn designer give the apartment-turned-salon a bohemian charm. Mani/pedis are offered in the recently renovated spa room, and estheticians provide waxing services and facials using products by Guinot and Eminence Organics. The salon exclusively carries the high-end Paris line Kerastase—but you won't be pressured with a product sales pitch.
