The wood-floored corner space, two blocks from the Williamsburg waterfront, has tall windows to let in plenty of sunshine, and peppermint-striped curtains in the spirit of barbershop poles. Customers come for subtle color and highlights, but the place is best known for its cuts—particularly razor cuts, which allow for a fluid line. The stylists, boldly done up themselves, are responsive to clients’ wishes while displaying a keen eye, sensing what could be taken off to lighten and sculpt a flattering shape, and providing cool, face-brightening results. Since Public has a relationship with Bumble & Bumble as one of their network salons, it carries B&B products and shares in their educational resources, as well.
