The sumptuously decorated 4,000-square-foot beauty haven on 57th Street is
the flagship location of stylist Edward Tricomi and colorist Joel Warren's
much-celebrated collaboration. Since the New York City-born duo opened shop here on
a shoestring in 1996, they have draped the place in Persian rugs, baroquely
oversized gilt mirrors, and Gaudi-esque curved glass vanities. With feet stuck
into bright copper basins, clients get milk and honey pedicures inside of what
resembles a Moroccan tent; the neighboring waxing room is adorned with Egyptian
hand-blown glass beads. But the real attraction here is the pair's charm and
skill. The charismatic Tricomi, who moonlights as a musician, brings a rocker's
penchant for performance to haircutting: His signature "tunneling" cut—which
earned him the nickname "Edward Scissorhands"—is a whirlwind of shears on dry
hair that creates a funky, layered look.
