Owners Su Kim and Rosemarie Allouche both trained at Vidal Sassoon and worked at Aerea before opening this downtown salon in 2001. The second floor space has a crisp look, with white walls, slate tiles, and illuminated frosted glass framing the mirrors, all combining to keep the visual focus on the client. The softly lit changing rooms also have mirrors and lint roller—a thoughtful post-cut touch. Kim, a stylist whose finesse extends to modifying her own clothing, spends quality time with each client to grasp his or her style and translate it to the cut, and collaborates with Allouche to harmonize shape and color. Allouche has a knack for enlivening hair with subtle lowlights or bold layers—reds being popular among the salon—and finishes treatments by conditioning hair with linseed oil. The owners and their longtime staff also offer straight, semi-straight, and curly perms.
