Opened in 2001 on Greenpoint’s main drag, Zoe’s is a convenient, one-stop option for outer-borough beauty needs. Part professional supply store and part full-service salon, the store attracts Polish neighborhood residents reporting for their weekly blowout, as well as local salon owners stocking up on hard-to-find imported haircare lines like Helen Seward and Joico. Mother-daughter team Kathy Scharf and Toni Trojano manage the front and back of the store, respectively. Mom Kathy handles the business side—she owned Jet Beauty Supply in Bay Ridge—and curates the ever-changing selection of hairdryers, brushes, hairpieces, and nailcare products packed onto the clean, simple shelves. Daughter Toni, meanwhile, has earned a cult following for her chunky cuts; there’s usually a waiting list for her weekend appointments. In addition to manicures, pedicures, and makeup applications, Zoe’s also offers massage, waxing, and facials—using German skincare line Babor—in one of five private treatments rooms. — Carolyn Murnick
