Manhattan might seem like a counterintuitive place for a composer as immersed in wilderness as John Luther Adams. But Adams, who has spent much of his career in the Sonoran Desert and on an Alaskan ridge, turns out to have a feeling for urban nature, too. His latest megawork summons 800 professional and amateur singers to the Harlem Meer for a wraparound meditation on our fragile home.
