Profile
If you're the type of person who likes to take backstage tours of Lincoln Center and Radio City or to watch pop-culture documentaries like VH-1's Behind the Music and HBO's Project Greenlight, this behind-the-scenes look at Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade is probably right up your alley. Spread out over a number of blocks on the Upper West Side, the unofficial start of the annual celebration is all about seeing flat but bigger-than-life versions of Dora the Explorer, Scooby Doo, and Mr. Potato Head slowly brought to life and inflated with helium. What was once simply a preparatory stage to the big show has evolved into an event unto itself with the crowds to prove it.

77th to 81st Streets, between Central Park West and Columbus Avenue. Enter at 77th Street and Columbus Avenue.
