Penny-pinching travelers with light baggage are drawn to this clean, if cramped, European-style hotel. The economy-class champ of a small Manhattan hotel group, Americana Inn keeps extravagances to a minimum, with the idea that a twin mattress and basic cable are accommodation enough. The floors of this converted apartment building are linoleum tile rather than carpet; the kitchenettes at the end of every hall are the size of a closet; and the usual amenities such as hair driers and irons are available only upon request. Each room has a sink, towels, and soap. The bathroom is shared by the floor. Safety shouldn’t be an issue, though, as there are security cameras throughout, a buzzer-activated front entrance, and hall phones connected to the Plexiglas-shielded front desk.Pros
The floors are cold, the beds are small, and the bathrooms communal.
