The Amsterdam Court is a well-kept and remarkably affordable sanctuary just a stone's throw from the brightest lights of Times Square. The lobby's simple stylishness—soft lighting and modern furniture—falls off a bit in the rooms upstairs, which are dominated by squishy, Art Deco headboards framing the beds. The Belgian linens and down comforters are a redeeming touch. Rooms lack minibars and other frills, but basic amenities—cable TV, video games, and refrigerators on request—are covered. Continental buffet is available for an extra fee, while a 24-hour lounge behind the lobby offers complimentary latte, espresso, cappuccino, and tea. If you’re itching to start spending, hit Natsumi Restaurant next door. This outpost of acclaimed sushi chef Haru has an entryway into the hotel.
ProsTake in a sliver of the night sky on the coffee lounge's hemmed-in back patio, where the city's din is (almost) drowned out by the gurgle of the seasonal wall fountain.
Cons
Plus-size travelers, beware: The upstairs hallways are especially cramped.
A Guide to the New Hotel Glut
There’s never been more lodging here, and the rooms have never looked this good.
