Profile

Dating back to the 1890s, this ten-story brick building around the corner from the Waldorf served as short-term corporate housing before becoming a Best Western in 2001. The apartments were converted into 34 generously sized suites that are popular with families and groups; in fact, the only time guests will feel cramped is in the narrow check-in area, where they choose between one-bedrooms that can sleep four and two-bedrooms that accommodate up to six. Edward Hopper prints and distinctive wooden end tables from Indonesia accent the drab blue-gray furnishings and banana-cream walls, and though the windows let in more street noise than light, with so few suites per floor and such thick walls, there’s plenty of privacy. TVs, large dining tables, pull-out sofa beds, and extra pillows and blankets keep things comfortable, but the rooms really revolve around the bright white kitchens that come fully equipped (microwaves, coffee machines, dishwashers, and cookware). If you must leave the room, the helpful staff can hook you up with everything from bottles of water to tips on scoring discount Broadway seats.

Pros

Spacious rooms, fully equipped kitchens, and free Wi-Fi make this a good value for large families.

Cons
Street noise and negligible views will disappoint those looking for a more intimate experience.
