The 13-floor Broadway Plaza Hotel lies in the middle of a congested wholesale/import district known for perfume, garment and electronics stores. Be on the look out for the narrow, curb-long burgundy awning since the entrance is barely discernable. There is no lobby to speak of, just a marble hallway leading to small check-in nook. In fact, nothing about this office building-turned-hotel is meant to impress. The 69 large rooms come in peculiar geometric shapes, cut with harsh angles, and are outfitted with low-budget furniture and double beds covered in peach polyester. Still, they have the essentials: TVs, two-line phones, wireless Internet, and sizeable checkered-floor bathrooms. Framed art prints spruce up the cold hallways that otherwise resemble office corridors and smell of cheap pine cleaner. While the accommodations are roomy, there are no communal areas, and social butterflies will surely yearn for livelier venues.
ProsReasonable rates for spacious rooms with basic amenities.
Cons
The area is on the seedy side with occasional beggars and thugs in the mix. During the day it's hyperactive with frenzied pedestrians and traffic.
A Guide to the New Hotel Glut
There’s never been more lodging here, and the rooms have never looked this good.
