Just blocks from the United Nations, this modest hotel offers roomy, residential-style suites in a quiet Murray Hill setting. A drab brown-brick façade gives way to a small and equally dull autumn-themed lobby, where the only attempts at pleasant furnishings are orange accent candles and a bowl of wicker balls. Renovations added a plasma TV in the reception area, while a makeshift computer work station ($3 for eight minutes) is awkwardly sandwiched between a wall and the lobby’s couches, leaving little room for privacy. The décor in the rooms isn't any more exciting, but the main draw here is the spacious accommodations at reasonable prices. Each of the tower's 188 rooms features dining and/or living-room areas with full kitchens, ideal for long-term business travelers or families. With ample closet space and a roomy setup, only the sterile, all-white bathrooms feel cramped. Suites range from studios to one- and two-bedroom options. Additional facilities include a meeting room and a small fitness center sufficient for a no-frills workout.
ProsFriendly staff and spacious, residential-style suites.
Cons
Décor could use some revamping.
A Guide to the New Hotel Glut
There’s never been more lodging here, and the rooms have never looked this good.
