After a 2006 renovation, the former Manhattan Seaport Suites was reborn the boutique Exchange Hotel, whose location midway between the financial towers of Wall Street and the shops and restaurants of the South Street Seaport attracts travelers looking to mix business with pleasure. A revamped lobby with dark wood walls leads the way to 54 suites tastefully outfitted in brown and beige hues with a splash of red (the latter in the form of a pillow, a vase or, more dramatically, the occasional wall). Thankfully, flat-screen TVs and Wi-Fi access distract from uninspiring window views: Suites looking out on noisy Front Street are met with traffic and tall buildings, while those situated toward the back of the hotel face brick walls. Still, those who are in town for work are likely to appreciate the desk space and cozy leather armchair in the room, and the elegant, candlelit lounge downstairs.
A Guide to the New Hotel Glut
There’s never been more lodging here, and the rooms have never looked this good.
