Profile
This midtown spot offers an alternative for travelers looking for the familiar comforts of a chain without the corporate feel. Past an unassuming 48th Street entrance, the dimly lit, bare-bones lobby features just a small counter attending to check-ins and checkouts. More cheerful is the mezzanine-level Lexicon Lounge, an airy, colorful space equipped with couches, free Wi-Fi access, magazines, a couple computer stations, and a communal table set with complimentary eats. The 116 guest rooms value comfort and convenience, making them a hit with both leisure guests and long-term business travelers. Featuring a soothing palette of whites, grays, and black, each has a microwave and butler pantry stocked with a sink, glasses, dishwasher, half-bottles of liquor, and Dean & DeLuca snacks (the latter two for a charge). There are also 37-inch flat-panel TVs, iHome stereos, and work desks, plus cushy Hyatt Grand beds and deluxe bath amenities. All rooms on the fourth floor have terraces (even the standards), and there are two Penthouse Suites with larger outdoor spaces. Excellent in-room spa services—including massages and scrubs—can be arranged through Suite Spa, which uses natural, aromatic, custom-made products. Room service comes courtesy of the lobby-level Lexington Brass Bar & Grill, a bustling spot serving upgraded classics like caviar-topped deviled eggs, lobster macaroni-and-cheese, and jelly-doughnut pancakes. Work it off in the small 24-hour on-site gym.
ProsConvenient midtown location; free Wi-Fi, coffee, and snacks in the cheery lounge; popular restaurant on-site; in-room spa services; 24-hour fitness room with Life Fitness equipment; automated check-in/checkout kiosks.
Cons
Charge for in-room Wi-Fi; no full-service spa; with limited staff at the front desk, there can be a wait at peak hours.
