Profile

Located across the street from LaGuardia Airport, and linked to the terminals via a complimentary shuttle, this former Wyndham Garden hotel provides surprising bang for the buck for business and in-transit travelers. Though the dated exterior may not raise hopes (the all-white, eight-floor main building and tower were built in 1964 and 1973, respectively), once inside, guests find a cozy, wood-paneled lobby outfitted with conveniences like an ATM and Easy Board kiosk for printing boarding passes. The lobby also houses The Café Restaurant, serving a daily buffet breakfast and dinner from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m. (it's closed for lunch), and The Café Lounge, open nightly until 10 p.m. for cocktails and light bites. Following general "refreshment" work done in 2010 and 2011, the 229 rooms now have touches like free high-speed Internet, massaging shower heads, cable- and Web-equipped TVs, and Herman Miller Aeron desk chairs to accent the otherwise basic décor of dark wood furniture and white linens. Executive rooms have king beds (and space for a rollaway), while LaGuardia rooms have two doubles. Other facilities include extensive meeting and conference spaces, and a 24-hour fitness room. Note that the complimentary airport shuttle runs every 30 minutes between 4:30 a.m. and midnight.

Pros

Free shuttles to LaGuardia Airport (across the street); free WiFi and morning paper; on-site gym; lobby Easy Board ticket kiosk for printing boarding passes.

Cons
Nine miles from midtown; $18 per day for parking; evening turn-down by request only; lobby restaurant closed for lunch.

Bed & Breakfast
Note that the "Bed & Breakfast" pricing option—which is $9 more than the standard room rate—just gets you a $9 credit towards breakfast.
