Far from Midtown's "I Love New York" T-shirt vendors and Chinese calligraphers lies the Milburn Hotel, a welcome Upper West Side getaway from touristy Manhattan. The hotel’s classical designed, apartment-like accommodations stand out for their reasonable rates: at $179 a night, the Milburn is a bargain among the tony neighborhood’s higher-priced competition. Awash in burgundy and forest green, the rooms feature kitchenettes, high-speed wireless Internet access, modern-tiled bathrooms, plus an extensive in-house video library and a Playstation for the kids. Business travelers will enjoy the sizable workspaces and one-bedroom suites with separate living rooms for those late-night meetings.
ProsJust down the street from the Jewish Community Center, guests (Jew and Gentile alike) have complete access to their brand new, 25-meter heated swimming pool.
Cons
The burgundy and green color scheme may seem a bit drab to the color-conscious, and the exercise room—a couple of treadmills and an exercise bike—may leave you wanting more from your workout.
A Guide to the New Hotel Glut
There’s never been more lodging here, and the rooms have never looked this good.
