Profile

This venue is closed.

In August 2004, the Dutch financial company ING became the independent owner and operator—a rarity these days—of its formerly leased Clarion Fifth Avenue Hotel, reopening it under the moniker Hotel 5A. Major renovations are planned for early 2005. In the meantime, the rooms retain the standard Clarion décor, in need of some attention: outdated pastel linens and curtains, faded wallpaper and worn carpet but still clean with nice bathrooms. Those facing the low-rise New York Public Library have a bit of a view and more light. Steps from Fifth Avenue and Bryant Park, it could become a real destination depending on how the renovations pan out.

Pros

It's right off Fifth Avenue, close to the Empire State Building. You can often find good deals online.

Cons
It's in need of renovation. If you're looking for nightlife, this isn't the place; the immediate area all but closes up at night.
