Profile

A mecca for European tourists, Novotel New York delivers basic accommodations for visitors whose main goal is to be in the heart of it all. An elevator brings you to the massive seventh-floor lobby, where guests are greeted by a funky, curvy red couch and puzzle-piece-shaped artwork depicting iconic New York images. The decent-size rooms are something of an afterthought, with a bland décor of grey, beige, and pastels. Soundproof windows keep out the bustle of Broadway, and bathrooms feature large countertops and hardwood floors. Each floor, meanwhile, is equipped with a shoe-shine machine for a charming, European touch. Much more impressive is the hotel’s bar and adjoining restaurant, Café Nicole. There, the floor-to-ceiling views of the Great White Way make up for the mediocre French menu and cheesy blue-squiggle carpeting. Better still is the bar’s terrace, which wraps around the south side of the building and provides faux-wicker love seats for taking in the city sights.

Pros

Central location for tourists, with an accompanying knockout view.

Cons
The underwhelming décor and closet-size computer and business center.
